23 days until the Olympics start in London! Time for another inspiring Olympian.
Chances are if you are an avid watcher of the Olympics, you have heard of Greg Louganis. Well if you have not, then let me enlighten you. Back in the day at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Greg Louganis stepped up to the diving board. He prepped himself and leaped. Instead of gracefully splashing into the pool, he bashed his head on the board. He was rushed out of the pool and got 5 stitches in the back of his head. Not ready to give in to defeat so easily he got back on the board. He performed the same move, he only 22 minutes earlier flopped, and pulled it off perfectly. He then went on to win the gold medal. It was later revealed that only 6 month prior Greg was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Through it all he persevered, and in the end came out on top. Greg has gone on to be an outspoken advocate for the fight against HIV/AIDS and has worked frequently with the Human Rights Campaign to defend the civil liberties of the LGBT community and people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Let Greg inspire you to do greatness, persevere, and always go for the gold! Tell us about any Olympians that inspire you below in the comments.
